What They are Saying

Wow! Great atmosphere, tasty happy hour food (the chicken skewers are affordable and delicious).
I
have been twice now for happy hour and cannot wait to go back for the
entertainment they have on some weekend nights. I understand the show
involves West African hip hop and, at other times, solo singers from
places like Tanzania.
Easy parking and the happy hour is from 3-7pm. I am happy to have more variety in the Queen Anne area.
An individual website for the restaurant would be great.
This is as good as it gets without going to West Africa for authentic atmosphere and the food may even be better here.
I will be back. Thank you Kwa Tay's!

This place is perfect - I actually felt like I was in West Africa for a bit.
Good,
authentic West African food has been, until now, impossible to find in
Seattle. There are a few places out there that I would say serve food
that is 'inspired' by West Africa, but this is the real deal. I had
fufu and palm nut soup and oh my, I felt like I was back in the village
eating alongside a cooking fire.
My boyfriend had the Banku with
Shito; the Talapia was fried to perfection. This is a very hot and
spicy dish, but it was well done. Our friend had a beans and rice dish
with goat (forgot the name). Extra bonus: KwaTay sources their goat
from Auburn - local goat! Everyone enjoyed their dishes immensely.
The
decor was awesome - just like a restaurant in Accra. Masks, painted
walls, a mirror on the dance floor, and Coupe Decale (Ivorian pop
music) on the speakers. Just a good time!
If you've been to
West Africa, you're going to feel like you finally found a little piece
of it here in Seattle. If you're new to West Africa, stop by and check
out a little bit of Ghana - good food, good music, and incredibly
friendly people. The staff at KwaTay is only too happy to explain
dishes to you and put you at ease. This is a great chance to try
something new and support a new local.

Really likes it
- I went for lunch and thought the food was great. They have a nice
selection of authentic foods (the goat was wonderful) at a decent
price. The atmosphere isn't great but the food more than makes up for
that.

KwaTay's is suuuuuuper empty around dinner time, which can be a little
unsettling, but the food is good! The menu has all sorts of Ghanian
treats, from kenke to fufu, and a wide range of options for vegetarians
and omnivores alike. (Okra! Fish! Goat! Eggs! and so forth.)
I
had the fufu with palm nut soup, which was tasty, though served a bit
cool. (Their fufu has the texture of knedlicke, the bready Eastern
European dumplings) Since the kitchen is a one-person job, I'd
recommend asking for food to come out as it's ready, so that you get
each dish hot. Speaking of waiting, don't come hungry, and be prepared
to have a beer or two before your dish arrives.
We'll definitely
go back, especially since you can buy a $25 gift certificate for $12.50
through The Strangermart. It actually looks like it would be a fun
place to go out and dance in Queen Anne-- I was bopping around in my
seat to the stereo system all through dinner.
